Core Handwriting Traits

Outlook, Baseline

How the line of writing rises, falls or stays level hints at current mood and outlook.

What you will learn
  • Rising baseline, hopeful and energetic
  • Level baseline, steady and reliable
  • Falling baseline, tired or discouraged

Draw an imaginary line under a sentence. If the words drift upward the writer is likely feeling optimistic. If they drift downward the writer may be tired or low.

A perfectly level baseline suggests emotional steadiness. Wavy baselines suggest a writer whose mood shifts easily.

Because baseline reflects mood in the moment, one sample only tells you about one moment. Read several samples before you decide it is a pattern.
